Sonsodo, long associated with garbage-related issues and environmental concerns, is set for a major transformation with plans for a public garden, vertical garden and walking track as part of a comprehensive beautification project.

Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that the government is working to convert the peripheral area of Sonsodo into a clean, green and attractive public space for residents and visitors.
According to Rane, the land required for the project has been made available by the Margao Municipal Council. The development will be undertaken jointly by the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), the Urban Development Department and the Forest Department.
The minister said the initiative is being implemented under the leadership of Digambar Kamat, the State Government and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cleaner and greener urban spaces.
Rane stated that the project is expected to be completed within four to five months and will involve an investment of approximately ₹8 crore. Once completed, the development will feature landscaped gardens, a vertical garden, walking tracks and other green amenities designed to enhance the area’s environmental appeal and recreational value.
The project is expected to significantly improve the image of Sonsodo and create one of Margao’s most distinctive green public spaces, offering residents a cleaner environment and a new destination for leisure and outdoor activities.
