South Goa collectorate toilets still unusable, contractor given ‘final ultimatum’

MARGAO: The District Administration has issued a final ultimatum to the contractor responsible for the non-functional toilet blocks at the South Goa District Collectorate. The contractor has been given until July 31st to complete the necessary repairs, as both citizens and staff continue to face significant inconvenience.

Female staff members are particularly affected, often having to traverse multiple floors in search of a working toilet. This ongoing issue forces government servants and visitors to use toilets still under repair, resulting in a pervasive stench throughout the premises.

The problem is evident on each floor of the Collectorate building. On the fourth floor, only one ladies’ toilet is operational, while the others are under maintenance. This pattern repeats on the third, second, and first floors, compelling staff to search the entire building for usable facilities. The systemic failures in infrastructure maintenance highlight the urgent need for comprehensive renovations.

Citizen Cajetan Fernandes expressed anger and frustration over the toilet block conditions. Speaking to O Heraldo, Fernandes emphasized the significant inconvenience and discomfort faced by government staff and visitors, particularly senior citizens and women. He urged the authorities to take the matter seriously.

In response, Srinet Kothwale, Additional Collector-I, reassured that the contractor has committed to completing all repair works by July 31. “As per the contractor’s assurance, the repair works for the toilet block and washroom on the first floor will be completed by June 30,” he informed. Kothwale added that the administration is treating the issue with utmost seriousness and is actively following up with the concerned contractor.
