The first meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) for the financial year 2026-27 was held at the Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex in Margao to review the progress of key development projects and centrally sponsored welfare schemes across South Goa.
The meeting was chaired by Lok Sabha MP Capt. Viriato Fernandes and co-chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade. Officials from various government departments participated in the review and discussed the implementation of ongoing development initiatives in the district.
Among the key issues deliberated was the need to promote Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) training programmes for Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to strengthen livelihood opportunities and encourage entrepreneurship.
The committee also stressed the importance of creating greater awareness about government welfare schemes by leveraging religious institutions and social media platforms to ensure that more eligible beneficiaries can access available services.
Members further discussed recognising the achievements of differently abled students who excelled in the SSC examinations and emphasised the need to ensure the quality and nutritional standards of meals served under the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in schools.
The DISHA committee reviewed the status of various developmental works and welfare programmes, reaffirming its commitment to improving implementation and ensuring the effective delivery of government schemes across South Goa.
