MARGAO: In response to the increasing cases of theft, assaults, and other crimes in South Goa, the police have intensified the process of tenant verification. Several police stations have reported a significant increase in the number of tenant verification forms being filled out in the region.
As of October 30, Cuncolim Police have filled out 3,290 tenant verification forms, nearing the total of 3,300 forms filled during the entire year in 2022. Colva Police have taken the lead, with 5,255 forms filled by the end of September, surpassing their count from the previous year.
During the same period in the prior year, they had filled 3,879 forms.
Quepem Police, as of October 6, had completed 841 tenant verification forms. In total, all the police stations in South Goa have filled out 18,189 tenant verification forms in the first five months of the current year. This is a notable increase compared to the 36,146 forms filled in the entire district in 2022.
The police have created a database of migrant laborers residing in Goa, and lodge and hotel managers have been instructed to retain photocopies of identification documents for guests even after they have left the premises.
This measure is aimed at addressing the issue of criminals posing as laborers and renting private accommodations, especially in the coastal areas.
It’s worth noting that the South Goa District Administration has mandated that no premises should be rented out without submitting the tenant’s details to the police, as part of the effort to enhance security and prevent criminal activities.
