MARGAO: South Goa Zilla Panchayat is all set to go back to the process of e-tendering following the change in the Chief Executive Engineer. However, in view of the lack of time, around 127 works for which tenders have been called will proceed with the current system.
The new Chief Executive Officer Pandarinath Naik, who took over about two months, back expressed total dissatisfaction with the system followed by the ZP where instead of adopting the e-tender system that is known for its efficacy and reduction of corruption and favouritism called for short tenders.
Works to be taken up were deliberately estimated to cost less than Rs 5 lakh so that open tenders could be invited without resorting to e-tenders as all works worth more than Rs 5 lakh have to be necessarily e-tendered.
“The office used to become a mad house as there were so many people descending and shouting over the tenders, that personally I felt e-tender was the best option as then nobody had to come to the ZP office,” he said.
However, as by the time fresh tenders would be prepared and invited by e-tender the monsoons would set in and no works would be undertaken till the end of monsoons, hence for the moment open tenders will be invited.
“We have invited tenders for around 137 works which are all estimated below Rs 5 lakh and some are even estimated to cost less than Rs 1 lakh,” he disclosed adding that in future the ZP will compulsorily go for e-tenders.
