MAPUSA: The iconic Souza Lobo Restaurant’s alleged illegal constructions on the Calangute beach had to face the wrath of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) after the restaurant owner was directed to demolish alleged illegal constructions on the beach.

On Tuesday, the GZMA directed to demolish illegal constructions of the metal stage on the beach which is about 80 sq metres which are erected with a laterite masonry compound wall with the height of nine metres, length of nine metres, along the eastern boundary of the plot and also illegally placed stone pavers as a pathway on the beach in NDZ area in the property bearing Survey No 176/17 of Calangute Village.
The GCZMA stated that it received a complaint from one Rama Rani Arora, a resident of East Delhi that illegal constructions were carried out by Jude Lobo, his wife, residents of Calangute right on the beach.
The GCZMA issued the order following a survey on December 7, 2021.
Jude Lobo said, “it is shocking to know about the demolition notice. I had infact filed a complaint against Rajiv Arora for CRZ violation, but there is not even a show cause notice issued to him, forget demolition and today they sent a demolition notice to us. Lobo said that action has to be initiated against Rajiv Arora, but this government continues to trouble local businessmen.”
“They directly came for demolition. I had received a notice once but all with wrong survey numbers. The complaint is forged and has nothing to do with my survey number. The GCZMA team did not know the survey numbers or the plans. They just came here without any documents to prove we were illegal,” stated Lobo.
Lobo alleged that money had exchanged hands with a politician while the Delhi businessman who is a wrongdoer himself is let off the leash, the authorities were selectively targeting local businesses.
