PANJIM: Savita Tawadkar, the wife of Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, was elected unopposed Sarpanch of Poinguinim village panchayat at a meeting held at the panchayat hall on Monday.
Sunil Painginkar was also elected unopposed as Deputy Sarpanch. The Sarpanch’s post in the panchayat is reserved for women.
Savita was elected from ward IX in a triangular battle while Painginkar was declared elected unopposed from ward II.
The Poinguinim village panchayat comprises nine members and seven of them are supporters of Ramesh Tawadkar.
