PANJIM:  The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) will work out special arrangement for candidates from COVID containment zones, appearing for the upcoming Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) scheduled on July 4 and 5.

However, the directorate is yet to zero upon the arrangement, awaiting response from the candidates from the containment area. So far, no students from the areas have approached DTE.

The State, with over 1200 cases, has two containment zones – Mangor Hill in Vasco and Guddemal in Sattari, and three micro-containment zones – Baina and Sada in Vasco and Xerent in Chimbel.

Also, areas like Moti Dongor in Margao, Sanquelim, Zuarinagar in Vasco and Cortalim are witnessing surge in COVID cases, with these areas also like to be declared as containment or micro containment zones.

The DTE has urged candidates from containment zones to approach them for making appropriate arrangement for answering GCET.

Sources informed that so far no candidates from containment zones have approached them. “Looking at the number of candidates from these areas, decision will be taken on kind of arrangement to be put in place,” sources said.

“However, there will be no cancellation of exams or special exam dates for candidates from containment zone. Exams will go as per schedule,” sources said.

In all, around 2950 students have registered to answer the GCET exams, which are held for admissions for engineering and pharmacy degree programme.

Wearing of mask, carrying hand sanitiser and maintaining proper physical distancing is mandatory for the candidates.

GCTE will be answered through 16 centres, where arrangements for thermal screening and sanitisation have been made. In each class, 16 students will be accommodated.
