PANJIM: Considering Goa’s request for special treatment for casinos, the Goods and Service Tax (GST) Council on Wednesday deferred a decision on the proposal to raise the GST on online gaming from 18 per cent to 28 per cent.
Minister for Panchayat Mauvin Godinho had represented the State at the GST Council meeting held on Wednesday.
As tweeted by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman, post-meeting, said that following Goa’s request for special treatment for casinos, it was decided that the Group of Ministers will give one more hearing for online games and horseracing as well.
The ministerial panel led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has been asked to submit the report by July 15 and the GST Council will hence meet again on this agenda in the first week of August, the Union Minister said.
