SSA workers form association, demand regularisation

PANJIM: Some 180 employees of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) who have served for over nine years have come together to form the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Employees Association (SSAEA) under the banner of Goa Trade Union Confederation (GTUC) demanding regularisation of their services.

Addressing the media, activist Ajeetsingh Rane said the SSA employees have duties similar to those that permanent teachers have and have been working for more than 10 years but are still employed on contract basis. The demand put to the Director of Education (DOE) and State government is that all the SSA employees be regularized.
He said that SSA employees are divided into teachers, block and cluster resource persons, management information system coordinators, data entry operators and accountants.
“We have been working for more than nine years, but still we don’t have job security or any facilities like travelling allowance (TA) and dearness allowance (DA),” said Prabha Samant, a senior teacher.
They also said that the association is in the process of sending a memorandum to the government demanding regularisation and a separate pay scale.
