PANJIM: St Cruz panchayat’s efforts of garbage collection have been continuously hampered by people who damaged the collection vehicle at least a dozen times last year.
On Monday the panchayat lodged a police complaint suspecting two persons for damaging the vehicle and hampering the waste collection.
“It is informed that some miscreants previously on many occasions damaged the vehicles like removal of battery cutting of terminals, cutting of filter vent pipes, causing damage to electrical wires by pulling out and also draining main engine oil resulting in bursting of engine and on one occasion the vehicle damaged the property of Solid Waste Management at Saligao due to purposeful cutting of air pipes,” the police complaint by acting sarpanch Indira Fernandes says.
The complaint further states that on Monday, when the supervisor went to start the vehicle, he saw that the brakes were not working.
“He got down and inspected the vehicle to check the fault and he noticed that the main electrical wires were cut, main hydraulic brake pipes were cut, also the driver side mirror was stolen and the main glass of vehicle was broken,” the complainant stated.
It adds that seven bins of 240 litres that are used for collection of garbage and placed at various locations have been stolen.
The panchayat has requested the police for a thorough investigation.
