PANJIM:  St Cruz locals along with panchayat members filed a police complaint with the Old Goa Police demanding strict action against those involved in dumping garbage in the village jurisdiction.
Addressing media persons, Olavio, a St Cruz resident said they visited the police station after the locals found that a food solution company had dumped garbage in the village.
He claimed that several times the police have been informed about this but no action has been taken.
“I would request the people to stop dumping garbage in St Cruz, he added.
Another local alleged that a contractor has dumped garbage in heaps in the village. The Sarpanch had filed a complaint against the contractor on October 18. “On October 20, the villagers had come to enquire as to what action has been taken on this issue by the police. The PI informed us that the contractor has been booked and that he (inspector) will submit his report to the court,” he added.
Sarpanch Lawrence Rodrigues said the panchayat has written to the police seeking to know as to what action has been taken against the violator.
Rodrigues said the PI has informed him that an offence has been registered against the violator and the report would be sent to the court shortly and action would be taken as per court directives.
