PANJIM: St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes held a meeting with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday to discuss the controversy surrounding the incident on Monday where the makeshift kiosks and vendors were removed from the place they were occupying outside Goa Medical College (GMC). The vendors had then pointed out that this action took place despite Fernandes’ earlier assurances.

Speaking to media persons, Fernandes, who has come under criticism from various groups, admitted that he was not taken into confidence by the collector’s office that had carried out the demolition of the temporary kiosks. It may be recalled that two new kiosks were installed in the same place based on a High Court (HC) order.
The BJP MLA said that along with St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira, they had finalised a thorough plan for rehabilitating the displaced vendors but in light of the HC order, they had to revise this plan accordingly.
He said discussions were underway with the CM, the Principal Secretary and the Collector to resolve the issue so that the vendors do not have to undergo further hardships. He added that he also spoke to the CM to help these vendors given their loss of livelihood.
