MARGAO: Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa has requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to submit a proposal with regard to political reservation to the Scheduled Tribes with the Central government and to direct the Election Commission to take up the long pending issue.
A delegation led by Ramesh Tawadkar met the Chief Minister in this regard and also urged to provide justice to the Gawda, Kunbi and Velip communities of Goa, informed Rupesh Velp, General Secretary.
The delegation briefed the Chief Minister about the constitutional obligations of State and Central Government towards Scheduled Tribe communities.
The Scheduled Tribes of Goa are kept deprived of their constitutional right of political reservation. This was recently also brought to the notice of the Government by Kirit Solanki, Chairman of Parliamentary committee for SC/ST during their recent visit in Goa, the delegation informed the Chief Minister.
“We have requested the Chief Minister to submit a proposal in this regard to the Central Government to direct the Election Commission to take up the long pending issue of political reservation for STs and provide justice to the Gawada, Kunbi and Velip communities.”
The Chief Minister was also requested to inform the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Ministry of law and justice, Government of India,” said Velip.
He further informed that the CM has assured them that he would look into the matter.
Members of the delegation include Adv Joao Fernandes, Ravindra Velip, Rupesh Velip, Govind Shirodkar and Joseph Vaz.
