PONDA: Sonarbag-Usgao and Curti-Khandepar locals decided to join hands against the upcoming bandhara at Sonarbag and vowed to oppose it tooth and nail.
The villagers also hit out at the Water Resource Department (WRD) officials for keeping them in the dark over the issue. “The government has sold Mhadei River to Karnataka and that is why the ministers of the neighbouring State are passing statements against Goa without fear. The WRD has failed to prove that the bandhara on Dudhsagar River in Sonarbag will be beneficial to villagers and the WRD engineers need to first come and tell the villagers about the project in detail,” said Manoj Parab.
Usgao Panch Vinod Mascarenhas, Khandepar Panch Manish Naik, Abhijit Gaude, Rohan Naik and a large numbers of villagers attended the meeting.
The panchas said that they will stand behind the villagers in opposing the bandhara.
