PORVORIM: As per further records tabled by the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, in the House on Tuesday, the State government has earned Rs 24 crore approx from the license renewals of six off-shore and nine on-shore casinos for the current financial year 2021-22.
As the COVID-19 pandemic situation has come under control, the government issued fresh guidelines announcing that key tourism activities including casinos resume operations from September 20, incidentally ahead of the commencement of the six month long tourist season.
Last month, the cabinet granted one year long extension from October 1, 2021 to Sept 30, 2022 to off-shore casinos since no alternate sites to shift from River Mandovi are yet identified.
The government SOPs state that casinos should operate with 50 per cent of its capacity, subject to adherence to all COVID safety protocols, including use of masks, sanitisers, thermal screening etc.
