PANJIM: Goa State Council for Science and Technology has filed an application for registering Geographical Indication (GI) for Goa Mankur (Mancurad) mango and is further working on to get the prestigious tag for two other varieties of Goan mangoes – Mangelar (Ilario) and Mussarat (Musarad).

Goa State Council of Science & Technology said that the Department wants to form an association of the three mentioned mango producers and local sellers and has thus proposed a meeting of farmers involved in the production of the three varieties.

Considering the ongoing pandemic SOPs, the meeting may be offline or online depending on the response received, so as to elect an adhoc committee to initiate the required process for filling GI application.

“The association will be open for membership and after completion of one year a regular committee will be elected in the special annual general meeting to take the GI process further,” states a media statement issued by the government on Monday.
