PANJIM: The trend of unseasonal rain that was witnessed in 2021 continued in 2022 where for the second time this year there was light rainfall across the State on Sunday morning.
“Light rain is very likely at a few places over North Goa & isolated places over South Goa district during the next 3-4 hours. At 9 am, clouds are moving towards the talukas of Pernem and Bardez,” said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a nowcast that was issued on Sunday morning.
IMD Goa Scientist Rahul M attributed the rainfall activity to a weak trough that had formed at a height of around 1.5 km over the South Konkan region.
He added that the prevailing conditions had caused a switch in wind, from the easterly to the westerly direction which had brought with it moisture. The breezy conditions were a relief for the public although many were left inconvenienced especially those who had ventured out in the morning or had kept materials out in the open for drying purposes.
Once the weak trough passes the temperature levels will drop again.
IMD has also forecasted that the minimum temperatures may dip by 2-3 degrees from Monday. “After 24 hours, fall in minimum temperature is likely by 2-3°C in the subsequent 3 days which will be followed by a gradual rise thereafter,” said IMD officials.
Fishermen were also warned against venturing into the sea with IMD observing wind and high wave conditions.
IMD has also predicted that there will be no further rainfall in the next few days.
