PANJIM: Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai informed the House that State government has earned Rs 105.20 crore from the sale of vegetables through the Goa State Horticulture Corporation Limited (GSHCL) from March 2017 till date.
Replying to a questioned tabled by Congress’ Thivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar, Sardesai said, “Total revenue earned by the Government from the sale of vegetables through Horticulture Corporation from March 2017 till date is Rs 105.20 crore.”
He said, “At present GSHCL has 13 registered vegetable suppliers. Suppliers are finalised following approval from Board of Directors. GSHCL has developed software in PHP format in January 2013 for finalisation of rates. Route supervisor on each route receives supply order from vendors between 12 pm and 1 pm and cumulative order is passed on to the suppliers via SMS.”
He said the suppliers procure, sort, pack and transport the vegetables route wise in a vehicle during night time. Vegetable rate fixation is done between 9.30 pm and 10.30 pm daily except Saturdays and Mondays
In another reply to a question tabled by Halarnkar, the Agriculture Minister informed that the total quantity of vegetables purchased by Horticulture Corporation from March 2017 to June 30 is 45,928 tonnes.
Replying to a question tabled by St Cruz MLA Antonio Fernandes, the minister said the government is taking various steps to boost production of vegetable crops in Goa and is also facilitating to market the same so as to reach the consumers at reasonable rates.
“During the financial year 2017-18; GSHCL has supplied 34321.24 tonnes of vegetables and 623.80 tonnes of fruits through its outlets. During the financial year 2017-18; Government has procured 590.40 tonnes of locally produced vegetables through its 16 procurement centres and supplied to citizens through GSHCL outlets,” he said.
