State Govt issues heatwave advisory

PANJIM: The State government has issued an advisory asking people to take measures to combat the prevailing heat.

The guidelines issued by the Goa State Disaster Management Authority has requested people to drink sufficient water and as often as possible even if not thirsty; to wear light weight, light coloured loose and porous cotton clothes, use protective glasses, umbrellas, hat, shoes or chappals while going out in sun; to carry water while travelling; to use ORS, coconut water, homemade drinks like lassi, torani (rice water) lemon water, buttermilk etc which help to re-hydrate the body, to keep doors and windows open to ventilate cooking area adequately; to use fans, damp clothing and to take bath in cold water frequently and to avoid direct sunlight.

The advisory further states that people should not to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, to avoid going out in the sun especially between 12 noon and 3 pm; to avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrates the body and to avoid high protein food and not to eat staple food.
