PANJIM: After a year-long standoff, the State government has decided to grant approval to Manipal Hospitals for organ transplant.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced the decision on social media after meeting Manipal Group Chairman Ranjan Pai.
“The main objective of this meeting was to discuss on the way forward with regards to the health care scenario. We have assured them that we will be totally supportive of their activities in the State,” Rane said in his Facebook post.
He said that status of implementation of SOTTO (State Organ Tissue Transplant Organisation), an initiative of the Goa government in the final stage of governing bodies and executive bodies to be notified in 2-3 days, was also discussed.
“Goa will soon have its own registry for deceased donor transplant programme. Unfortunate patients of end stage kidney, liver and heart failure and those with corneal blindness will benefit immensely,” he said.
“We have decided to recognise Manipal Hospital for organ transplant. We have assured Pai and Jain that we will have this centre recognised under mediclaim and DDSSY,” he added.
