PORVORIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday informed the State Legislative Assembly that government is in process of introducing bar coding for liquor products, which will enable the Excise Department to monitor the accurate production of liquor in the State.
Replying to the Demand for Grants on Excise, Parsekar said, “The Department has recently implemented online system called the Goa Excise Management System, developed by NIC.
“Issuing and processing of licences, NOCs, import and export permits, processing licences and others are being done using software,” he said.
“We are also going to bar code the product so that in near future we will be in a position of monitoring accurate production of liquor in the State through it,” Parsekar told the House.
The Chief Minister said that the Excise Department has set a target of collecting Rs 358 crore revenue during the current financial year.
He said, “The revenue collection recorded growth in 2015-16 by almost Rs 47 crore compared to 2014-15.”
“The revenue collection during the last financial year stood at Rs 315 crore as against its previous year where it was Rs 268 crore,” he said.
Speaking on the Demand for Grants on Mining, the Chief Minister said, “Government has shell out nearly Rs 163.42 crore in form of financial assistance to truck owners and to those who were rendered jobless due to mining ban. The financial support was offered for nearly 24 months, he said.
Similarly, under one time settlement (OTS) scheme, government managed to close the accounts of 4412 loan borrowers by clearing the loan amount of Rs 50.45 crore, Parsekar said.
