PANJIM: Rajya Sabha MP and AITC National Vice-President Luizinho Faleiro said that Goa’s Statehood was achieved only because Konkani became the official language of Goa.
“Goa is now the topmost tourist destination in India and yet the people of Goa are faced with increasing rate of unemployment, pending debts which coupled with the failure of the government to initiate pro-people governance. I appeal to all the non-resident Goans to come back and take part in developing the State and furthering human development,” he said on the occasion of Goa’s 35th Statehood Day as the party congratulated and celebrated the day at its office in Panjim.
During the event, Faleiro, Rajendra Kakodkar, Samil Volvoikar and Avita Bandodkar felicitated late Ravindra Kelekar, late Balaji Gaunekar along with N Shivdas, Shir Tomazinho Cardozo, Harischandra Nagvenkar and Faleiro for their contribution to the struggles that led to the statehood.
Highlighting the failure of the BJP’s governance in the State, Kakodkar said that despite statehood, Goa’s weak leadership seeks approval from their masters sitting in Delhi which has hampered the growth of the State. “Residents of Vasco are suffering due to their inability to initiate clean and eco-friendly mining in Goa. Mhadei River is drying up and trees are being cut indiscriminately in the eco-sensitive Western Ghats,” he said.
