VALPOI: About 150 workers of a steel company at Honda on Tuesday protested against the closure of the factory.
The workers agitated outside the company gate in protest against the notice of closure of factory put up at the factory premises by the management.
The workers, who are agitating since Monday afternoon, told Herald that 150 workers working in the company since the last five years had to go home due to the anti-workers attitude of the management.
“The workers had demanded with the management to revise their salary as per the agreement of the company. However, the company management instead of meeting demands of the workers forcefully took the decision to close down the factory without due process including not intimating the government department concerned,” informed a worker.
The workers further informed that the problem started on Monday afternoon when the workers of the second shift were forcefully restrained from entering the company premises by the security informing the reason that the company has put up the closure notice.
The workers surprised with the sudden notice of closure decided to meet the labour commissioner to solve their grievances.
Valpoi Police informed that no untoward incident was reported at the factory premises.
