PANJIM: Work on removing the remaining portion of the River Princess wreck at Sinquerim-Candolim beach is expected to begin soon as Arihant is due to submit plans to complete the work in two months.
At a meeting held Tuesday between Tourism Department, Arihant and Goa Shipyard Ltd, directions have been given to GSL to submit its plans for monitoring the wreck removal.
“As soon as we get the monitoring deployment chart from GSL we will give the go ahead to the ship breaking agency to commence the work,” a senior tourism department official said.
The tourism department has consulted GSL for monitoring the removal of debris and to assess the amount of metal salvaged.
The GSL were also handed over original designs of the River Princess and would verify the actual metal tonnage lying below the seabed vis-à-vis the debris already extricated by the ship breaking agency.
Around three landing sites have been identified and the GSL would be monitoring the removal work round the clock.
Tourism department official also disclosed that Arihant has submitted its action plan of removing the remaining debris within two months.
