MARGAO: The proposal by Goa Housing Board to set up a housing colony in Deussua and Dramapur met with stiff opposition at Sarzora and Chinchinim Deussua gram sabha on Sunday with the villagers directing the two panchayats to convey their objection to the proposal to various government authorities including the local MLA.
At Deussua a villager said the housing board coming up in Dramapur will be next to the Sarzora village and the people from Sarzora will have to face lot of hardships and inconvenience due to influx of people from other regions and culture.
Hence the villagers unanimously resolved against the proposed colony to preserve the Goan culture and ethos and also not to upset the demography of the area.
At Chinchinim Deussua there were heated discussion on the project with some villagers coming with placards stating their objections to the Housing Board project. The villagers were particularly incensed when the Acting Sarpanch Valentino Barreto disclosed that the panchayat was not taken into confidence about the matter at all.
“The Talathi was directed by the mamlatdar on 21st January 2019 to submit a report and he did it without even consulting the panchayat,” he said and added that around 53,000 sq mts of land from Deussua has been earmarked for the housing project.
The panchayat was asked to write to the Minister for Housing, Mamlatdar, Collector and the local MLA about the people’s objection and also to send a copy of the gram sabha resolution to them.
