MARGAO: A stream of leachate, flowing right from the foothill of the Sonsodo dump, has made its way into the residential areas of Gogol. On Saturday locals saw huge leachate accumulation in the areas adjoining to Amrut Nagar near Chowgule College.
A drain in front of the Salgaonkar house was overflowing with leachate. It was later realised that the garbage from the dump made its way into the flowing water downstream and blocked the further passage of the water. The blockage was released and the water was allowed to flow downstream.
Siddhanath Buyao, a local, said, “The bigger concern is the wells and the River Sal where all this water flows into ultimately. The government has done nothing to protect the wells in the town.”
