PANJIM: Voice of Students, an apolitical group of students studying in professional colleges in the state, has questioned the government’s ambiguity regarding the fee structure of professional colleges in the state.
The students have pointed out that the fees in most professional colleges have been raised ranging from Rs 5,000 to 8,000 over last year’s fee structure while some colleges have not raised their fees at all.
“The notices were displayed in the colleges about the fee hike without any authentication by Goa University or the Directorate of Technical Education. Later it was brought to our notice by the director that the fee hike was done by a fee structure committee. The GCET prospectus of this year includes a line that the fees of this year are not yet finalized. When will the students entering the technical colleges know their actual fees? Just before their exams or on the day of their exams?” Akshay Naik Madkaikar, President of Voice of Students asked Herald saying that they firmly oppose any fee hike.
The Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat refused to comment, however he said that he was willing to meet the students on the issue.
