PANJIM: The Sunburn Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival scheduled in December this year will be spread over four days and will have local flavour, according to Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte.

Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Khaunte said that the festival had already got in-principle approval from the Goa Tourism Board while, imposing certain conditions on the organisers.
“This year, we have asked the organisers to hold four-day event, with one day, fully-dedicated to showcase Goan talent and culture. One stage has to be fully dedicated to Goan artistes. The stage should have Goan theme. We want that local artistes are also given a platform to showcase their talent to the world. Not just DGs and artistes but the day will be dedicated to Goan cuisine also,” Khaunte said.
Since its beginning, the EDM festival, an annual event, was held for three days at Vagator in the last week of December. After organising the festival at Candolim for the first few years, the venue was shifted to Vagator.
Last month, the Goa Tourism Board had granted in-principle permission to organize the Sunburn EDM festival while, setting certain terms and conditions before the organisers to include Goan talent and culture for the event and to extend the festival by a day.
Speaking further, the Minister said that the department of tourism is considering tuning sports with tourism by fostering beach volleyball, beach cricket in the coastal State to give a big push to both the sector. These new thoughts need to come in both, sports and tourism, he added.
“Sports tourism, we are contemplating in terms of beach volleyball, beach cricket, we would love to do it in different formats. I have been in touch with the sports minister. This should be international event,” he said.
Khaunte said that he is in talks with the Central government to work out the modalities. He said that both the department Ministers and officials need to sit together and venture out to see how things help.
