In a recent development, the Supreme Court has issued conditional approval for the Sunburn EDM event, temporarily halting the High Court’s decision that had previously overturned the reduced rent established by the Goa government for comunidade land.
The High Court of Bombay at Goa in September asked Sunburn EDM and the Rider Mania organisers to pay the Comunidade of Anjuna balance amount of Rs 36.95 lakh and Rs 12.67 lakh, respectively, within a period of eight weeks. If the amounts are not paid within the given period, then it shall carry an interest of eight per cent, the Court stated while hearing a writ petition filed by Dr Fenton De Souza of Anjuna and Trevor Mascarenhas of Mapusa, who are also the Gauncars/Zonnkars of Comunidade of Anjuna.
However, with the recent decision by the Supreme Court, the event has received conditional approval, altering the previous ruling and offering a temporary suspension of the High Court’s directives. The specifics and implications of this decision are subject to further developments in this ongoing legal matter.
