Surprise inspection of Margao Municipal Council finds several employees slacking, not in uniform

Chairperson warns staffers to shape up or ship out, issues warning to staffers not wearing uniforms, emphasises that indiscipline will not be tolerated

MARGAO: In a bid to instil discipline among the staff of the Margao Municipal Council, a surprise inspection was carried out by the Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar, along with Chief Officer Manuel Barretto and other officials on Friday. The inspection was conducted to ensure that employees were adhering to the council’s dress code and remaining in their seats during work hours.

The inspection revealed that six employees were not wearing uniforms, with no valid reason for doing so. This comes after complaints from Margao citizens that council workers were not wearing uniforms or occupying their assigned positions despite signing the muster roll.

Previously, incidents had been reported in the Municipality where employees were found grocery shopping in civilian clothes during work hours, despite being paid uniform allowances. Taking these concerns seriously, the surprise inspection was conducted, and citizens’ allegations were proven true.

Shirodkar and Barretto personally visited each section of the administration during the inspection, and many employees were seen attempting to avoid disciplinary action by leaving their designated areas. Shirodkar has warned that such inspections will continue to be conducted to maintain discipline among employees. He has also revealed that allowances for both medical and uniform expenses have been increased for council employees.

Speaking to reporters, Shirodkar issued a warning to employees found in violation of the dress code: “All those employees will be marked absent, and uniform allowances will not be disbursed if found without uniform in the future. Indiscipline among employees will not be tolerated.”

He further emphasized that regular inspections will be carried out to ensure that employees adhere to the council’s regulations. “It is the duty of the employees to wear the uniform without fail,” Shirodkar said.
