PANJIM: BJP leader Subramanian Swamy went on National television on Monday night to state that ‘traditions in Goa have to be changed’.
Responding to questions on a beef ban in Goa, Swamy said, “Power in Goa yes, Goa has a tradition, we have to change that. We have every intention to remove…,” before he was cut off from completing the sentence.
Reacting to this, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, “I am sure the other parties supporting Manohar Parrikar will have sleepless nights after what Swamy said, because Swamy cannot talk so irresponsibly. Maybe Swamy is reflecting the mind process of the BJP and RSS that very soon Goa will have a beef ban and all the traditions of Goa would be changed.”
Later in the programme, Swamy reasserted the beef ban in Goa saying, “When we come to power we have to implement some programme… Where we can do it easily we implement it right away and where it will take a little time we will do
it. I’m telling you Goa can’t be an exception. It may take a little time for it because the situation that prevails in Goa, we have to deal with this in a sensitive way. But that doesn’t mean we are going to respect diversity in this matter. It’s a constitutional principle, it is what Mahatma Gandhi said we should do.”
