PANJIM: South West Port Limited (SWPL) on Tuesday withdrew its application filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa seeking permission to allow an additional two vessels to berth at Mormugao Port Trust, after Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) raised objections to this.
The Division Bench comprising Justice S Kemkar and Justice Nutan Sardessai were hearing the application.
South West Port Limited had approached the court seeking permission to allow an additional two vessels to berth at MPT, as replacements to ships, laden with cargo, which failed to reach the port due to technical snags. Adv Subhod Kantak, on behalf of SWPL, said that the two ships encountered technical snags mid-sea and were not able to reach the port.
The High Court had allowed 15 vessels to berth at 5A and 6A at MPT, in its earlier order issued last month.
Justice S Kemkar had pointed out that the order passed by them in January, was with regards to only those ships which had already sailed for Goa and the two new ships were not part of that list.
GSPCB in its reply said they would like to continue with the earlier Court order without any changes. Hence, SWPL was asked to withdraw its application.
South West Port Limited had approached the High Court challenging the GSPCB decision to revoke Consent to Operate granted to them for coal handling facility at berth number 5A and 6A at MPT.
