SWR manufactures 21,510 masks, 4,317 litres of sanitisers in-house

VASCO: To continue the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, South Western Railway (SWR) has in-house manufactured 21,510 masks and 4,317 litres of sanitisers for its staff.

The Railways is taking measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by making efforts to supplement the health care initiatives of Government of India by producing masks and sanitisers in-house.

With the active involvement of the officers and staff, SWR has produced masks and sanitisers in-house at its divisions and workshops. 

As per the information provided in a press release, specifically in Hubballi workshop, 5,570 masks have been manufactured and 2,530 litres of sanitisers. In Hubballi Division, 1,915 masks and 520 litres of sanitisers have been manufactured.

To ensure supply of goods and essentials in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, the SWR is running freight trains and also timetabled parcel trains where the labourers are required for loading and unloading of the commodities, the press release states. 

Masks and sanitisers are being provided to contract labourers during loading and unloading of the essential commodities. These essentials are being made available to all staff and frontline staff coming on duty to protect them and their families from the virus.  

Frontline staff is also counselled to ensure social distancing and take precautions against COVID-19 virus. 

The staff, including loco pilots, guards and trackmen, are also being provided with the essentials.  Railways are utilising these face masks and sanitisers for the safety and protection of its staff members, RPF officials, and freight service workers.
