PONDA: Though during the month-long lockdown period, the stranded labourers were provided food by several NGOs and social workers in Ponda, the migrant labourers stranded at Shapur, near KTC bus stand, here, are worried about their future.
They are grateful to the NGOs and social workers, but now want employment as the lockdown to get relaxed from April 20.

“We are the daily wage earners and our family depends upon us,” they informed. While some workers said they are called at construction site but some mentioned no body approached them, offering jobs.
They also informed that they did not get any relief from PM Care Fund or CM Relief Fund. Many don’t have construction workers ID cards though they are working for the construction line. They are hoping for monetary relief from the government
These workers said they have only Aadhaar Card document and no other documents with them. Many slum dwellers and labourers have no bank accounts. Further, they are confused as they can’t go to their native place till May 3 and so looking out for daily wage jobs for survival.
Meanwhile, several NGO members contributed to providing food for the needy migrant labourers and slum area people said, “They feel mental happiness and also feeling like served to the nation during the lockdown period.”
People of Ponda served food to around 1,500 people on regular basis. Member Dr Rajendra Desai said, “Our members are always actively contributing to society. Social worker Santoba Desai and many others donated food. Besides, the government also distributed rice.
