SWR surpasses target in scrap sale

VASCO: South Western Railway has surpassed Ministry of Railway’s target of Rs 110 crore, by 5.35 per cent. Total scrap sale of SWR for 2020-21 is Rs 115.89 Crore.

In spite of COVID-19 challenges, the SWR has conducted 245 auctions successfully during the year 2020-21 by maintaining close co-ordination with Engineering and Mechanical Departments, the SWR said in a press release.

Furthermore, the SWR has said that it could mobilise and sell scrap of 42,932 MT against a commitment of 26,800 MT.

Regular meetings were held between purchasers and auction conducting officers. Coordination meetings were also held between auction conducting officers and Mechanical and Engineering Officers regularly in order to mobilise scrap at divisions and depots to realise revenue for Railways from the sale of scrap/condemned material.

Meanwhile, the SWR achieved highest loading on a single day on March 31. The total number of wagons loaded has been 2,907 surpassing the previous best of 2,837 achieved on March 31, 2017.

The SWR stated that the highest ever monthly loading has been achieved by SWR in the month of March 2021. The figure stands at 4.39 MT surpassing the previous best of 4.37 MT achieved during March 2008.

Annual loading of SWR in 2020-21 is 38.17 Million Tonnes which is 3.38 per cent more than that of 2019-20.

The South Western Railway has achieved the highest ever punctuality of 96.27 per cent in the financial year 2020-21, since its formation (18 years ago on April 1, 2003).

The SWR said that it has surpassed Railway Ministry’s target of punctuality which was set at 88 per cent. Also, the SWR has achieved the distinction of fourth position among All India Zonal Railways Punctuality position way back from the 16th position out of 17 Zonal Railways almost a year ago.

Further, this is a significant achievement considering that SWR is operating 70 per cent of Mail/Express trains compared to pre-COVID-19 days (61 pairs out of 86 pairs of M/E trains have been restored). This number of restoration of trains is the highest in all the Zones of Indian Railway. The SWR has achieved this feat despite carrying out record number of new line (52 kms), doubling (207 kms), electrification (303 kms) in FY 2020-21.

This achievement has been possible due to persistent efforts of Operating, Engineering and Signal and Telecom Departments of SWR.

Gajanan Mallya, the new general manager has congratulated the team of officers and staff responsible for this feat and exhorted them to maintain the punctuality at top position to enhance convenience and comfort to the passengers and public.
