SWR urges State nod to double rail track

BELGAUM: South Western Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Mital has urged Goa government to take up the matter of doubling of the railway track between Vasco and Tinaighat.
Mital was addressing the 15th Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meeting in Hubli on Thursday. Twenty-six members including MLA Ganesh Gaonkar were present for the meeting.
“A special thrust is being given to improve infrastructure and line capacity on various sections of SWR. As a part of this, Railways Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, laid the foundation stone for 245 kms of doubling of railway line project between Hospet and Tinaighat at Londa in July,” said Mital.
He also urged MLA Gaonkar to raise the issue of permission for land acquisition for doubling of railway project to railways in Goa, as it was not agreed to by the present Goa government.
Gaonkar, who thanked SWR authorities for providing the Vailankanni Express stop at Sanvorddem, assured that he would positively do his best. “I will definitely try to solve this issue with the State government,” Gaonkar assured SWR authorities.
Mital said during the last financial year, SWR loaded 33.52 million tonnes of freight and carried 193 millions of originating passengers with the gross earnings of Rs 4,185 crore.
“With customer as our focus, it is our earnest resolve to make our services passenger-friendly and the rail journey comfortable,” he said briefing about various developmental measures initiated by SWR for the comfort of passengers.
“To meet the demand of the rail users and clear extra rush of passengers, this railway has run 1,934 special trains and attached 1,744 extra coaches during April to August.
