MARGAO: The new generation of tiatr artists need to work hard in order to preserve tiatr for posterity, appealed senior tiatrist Roseferns.
He was speaking at an award function organised by the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) to celebrate the birth anniversary of the late Rosario Rodrigues, the father of khell-tiatr, at Ravindra Bhavan-Margao on Wednesday.
Roseferns presented lifetime achievement awards in the field of Khell-Tiatr to senior tiatr personalities Artur Viegas, Miguel Azavedo and Mariano Dias.
The annual event is usually held on October 24, Rodrigues’ birthday, which clashed with Diwali this year, and celebrated on the 26th instead. Special invitee Carmina Rodrigues, wife of late Rosario Rodrigues, and the office-bearers of TAG, Menino Fernandes, Socorro Fernandes and Suresh Divkar were also present on the dais along with Vithal Furtado, one of the founder members of Rodrigues’ dramatic troupe.
TAG also recognized the immense contribution of Roseferns, known as the King of Centuries in the field of khell-tiatr and felicitated him for achieving the milestone of completing 100 tiatrs.
Awardee Artur Viegas also spoke on behalf of all the awardees and thanked TAG for recognising their work. Vital Furtado and Ben Evangelisto shared their experiences with the late Rodrigues and insisted that young tiatr artistes follow his path for the development and preservation of khell-tiatr.
The formal function was followed by a Konkani Musical Show presented by Vithal Furtado and his troupe. The programme was compered by Agnelo Fernandes (Agnel Borim) and co-ordinated by Meleeta Rodrigues.
