Talak appointed ESG Vice-Chairman

PANJIM: National award winning filmmaker Rajendra Talak was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) on Monday.

ESG is the nodal agency that organises the hosting of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The post had fallen vacant earlier this month, after former MLA Damodar Naik had resigned from the position to concentrate on his former constituency of Fatorda.
Naik had found himself embroiled in controversy related to financial misappropriation during IFFI 2014, the matter is pending before the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB).
Meanwhile, the Federation of Film Fraternity of Goa (FFFG), a body of filmmakers, opposed Talak’s appointment and urged Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to dissolve the society’s general body and reconstitute it.
“The government is trying to bring on this position to facilitate the scams and scandals in ESG. We urge the government to immediately take corrective measures, failing which the entire local film fraternity will be compelled to agitate and boycott the activities of ESG,” FFFG Vice-President Laxmikant Shetgaonkar said in a letter to the Chief Minister.
The State is gearing up to host the 47th edition of IFFI from November 20-28.
