PANJIM: Taleigao villagers have complained that the gram sabha of the village panchayat held on Sunday saw poor turn out as they were clueless about the gram sabha as the panchayat failed to inform them.
Expressing her disappointment at the panchayat’s attitude, one of the villagers Cecille Rodrigues said that she had personally written letters during previous gram sabhas urging the panchayat to issue advertisement in local dailies and to make announcement in temples, churches and mosques. But this time, no announcements were made at these places, she said.
Rodrigues said that they had also given their email ID and contact numbers so that they could be informed about the gram sabha but being in the digital era the panchayat is lagging in technology.
“I had even volunteered my services to assist the panchayat but in vain. No public address system was used,” said Rodrigues.
Another resident Francis Coelho said that even in his ward there was no vehicle making announcements about the gram sabha. Also the six different village committee members were not informed on the same, nor are they called to discuss the development matters of the village.
Yet another resident said that he saw a vehicle with public address system moving in the village on Saturday afternoon. But no villagers could hear the announcement as its volume was low. The panchayat did it just for the sake of doing, he said.
