Taleigao Xetkarancho Ekvott vows to work against MLA, sarpanch

Accuses the duo of creating land banks consisting of farm land

PANJIM: Xetkarancho Ekvott of Taleigao has vowed to work against Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate and Taleigao Sarpanch Agnelo D’Cunha in the forthcoming elections and has criticised their role in the damage caused to the fields of the village.

The Ekvott accused the duo of creating land banks consisting of farm land in areas where the zones have been converted for commercial exploitation and to allow commercial buildings to come up.

Pointing out that the farming in the village is in grave danger and how most of the fields are flooded due to the blocking of water channels, the group added that the rains in the first week of June have caused a lot of damage.

The group has slammed the local panchayat for not helping out the affected farmers and allegedly misleading them about the panchayat’s attempts to revive farming recently.

This was stated by Adv Pundalik Raikar, on behalf of the Ekvott at a media briefing held, on Saturday.

He added that if the sarpanch is dedicated for farming, why is there no budget for farming, why there is no budget for the farming community in the panchayat and why the water channels have not yet been opened.

Adv Raikar demanded that the sarpanch give his response on these issues raised by them, while continuing to criticise the MLA.
