In a major shake-up in Bangladesh cricket, former captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following the controversy surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.The Bangladesh government decided to dissolve the existing board after a five-member inquiry panel confirmed allegations of political favouritism, malpractice, and abuse of power within the organisation. The investigation was triggered after Bangladesh’s controversial withdrawal from the global event, which drew widespread criticism.
Tamim Iqbal takes charge of new committee
Tamim Iqbal will now head an 11-member ad hoc committee tasked with rebuilding the credibility of Bangladesh cricket. The panel includes former captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer-turned-commentator Athar Ali Khan, along with several administrators.National Sports Council director Mohammed Aminul Ahesan confirmed that the decision has been communicated to the International Cricket Council (ICC), and approval is awaited.Earlier, Tamim had strongly opposed the board’s decision to pull out of the T20 World Cup, urging officials to reconsider. His remarks had sparked controversy, with then finance committee chairman M. Nazmul Islam accusing him of acting as an “Indian agent.”Now leading the board, Tamim faces the challenging task of restoring trust and ensuring transparency.
