VASCO: A heated argument between two taxi drivers ended in tragedy, when a 32-year-old driver from Sanguem was stabbed to death outside a hotel at Arrosim on Friday evening, a day ahead of his brother’s wedding.

Verna Police have arrested the other taxi driver, Ulhas Pednekar of Madir-Verna in this connection.

According to Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza, Jostline D’Costa (32) of Sanguem had gone to a starred hotel at Arrosim.

“Though the exact motive behind the murder is not clear, there was a heated argument between D’Costa and taxi driver, Ulhas Pednekar. During the argument, Pednekar allegedly stabbed D’Costa in the stomach. D’Costa was shifted to GMC Hospital at Bambolim in a critical conduction, but succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical treatment,” informed DySP D’Souza.

Sources told Herald that Pednekar was recently sacked as a driver by his boss.

D’Costa, who is also a taxi driver, was to proceed on leave due to his brother’s wedding on Saturday and had requested Pednekar to drive the taxi on his behalf, which was reportedly agreed by Pednekar.

However, Pednekar failed to pick up a guest on Thursday and a furious D’Costa fired Pednekar over the phone.

Angered by D’Costa’s outburst over the phone, Pednekar entered into an argument with D’Costa and allegedly stabbed him outside the hotel on Friday afternoon.

Verna Police has arrested Pednekar under Section 302 of IPC and Verna PI Rajesh Kumar is investigating the case.
