MAPUSA: The North Goa Taxi Association has threatened to paralyse Goa if the Government goes ahead with any kind of taxi service. They have warned the government not to test their patience by introducing KTC taxi or any other taxi service in Goa.
In a meeting held at Calangute on Thursday, the association appointed two members at every hotel stand from Sinquerim to Keri to create a better network in case of a strike call and to inform its members to raise funds to hire services of advocate to fight their case regarding speed governance in the Apex Court.
The association said the taxi owners are not “mafia as they are addressed by some politicians.” The taxi owners are Goans and taxi business is their only means of livelihood, they added.
Vinayak Nanoskar, president of the association, said, “Taxi owners will not allow the government to go ahead with the KTC taxi service at the airport and will also not allow any other taxi service which will affect our members”.
Nanoskar appealed to his fellow taxi owners to be united and keep a watch on the government department, specially the RTO or Traffic police, in case they harass them.
The spokesperson of Association, Bappa Korgaonkar, said, “Government plans to start KTC taxi and bus services from Airport which will destroy our business. We will not allow this kind of services. If the Government forces us to install speed governors then we will move the Apex Court”.
