CANACONA: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department, which is reportedly embroiled in a blame-game with Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) over the Ruby Residency building collapse, has found itself in another spot of bother.
The TCP reportedly owes about Rs 6 lakh to CMC towards rent of the Canacona Deputy Town Planner office at the municipal building in Chaudi.
It may be recalled that following the collapse of Ruby Residency building, the CMC and TCP were engaged in a blame game and investigating agencies held both equally responsible and made arrests from both camps.
CMC Chairperson Mahadev Dessai admitted that the TCP had not paid rent for its office on the first floor of the municipal market building.
“The issue of rent was taken up with the TCP on various unsuccessful counts. The arrears have now shot up to above Rs 6 lakh,” Dessai informed.
It may be recalled that the three-room office of the deputy town planner escaped with no damage to its files and records, when the fire raged the ground floor of the municipal market building late Tuesday night.
While still being a defaulter, TCP reportedly advanced its move to shift its office from the damaged building to another building which is also owned by CMC.
According to sources, the office of the deputy town planner is being shifted as the municipal market building has been considered unsafe.
The TCP office is being shifted to the right wing on the first floor of IDMST building, also owned by CMC and incidentally situated in the same locality.
