PORVORIM: The Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department has finally approved the Rs 15 crore market complex project for Porvorim.
The complex, which comprises 94 shops, 27 offices, a conference hall, a community hall, a marriage hall and a restaurant, has been submitted by Goa Housing Board (GHB).
Following the TCP approval, the GHB submitted the file to the Penha da Franca Panchayat on Tuesday seeking a construction license.
A panchayat source told Herald that the file will be placed before the panchayat body for approval in the fortnightly meeting on November 16.
It may be recalled that the GHB had submitted its proposal for the market complex to the TCP on August 6 and had paid fees of Rs 53,000 on August 8.
However, the proposal was returned by TCP on grounds that the market complex had been designed based on 100% FAR and the TCP advised the GHB to resubmit the revised market complex proposal with an 80% FAR.
Accordingly, the GHB revised the plan and resubmitted the market complex proposal based on an 80% FAR to the TCP.
Since the TCP did not accord the approval, a special meeting was convened at the Secretariat by Chief Minister Manohar Parriker on October 4 to discuss this issue, following which TCP officials agreed to grant approval to the market project.
According to the proposal, the total floor area of the market complex comprising two buildings will be 5,974 square.metres. The first building will contain 36 shops on the ground floor, 42 shops on the mezzanine floor, 16 shops and 14 offices on the first floor and four offices and a restaurant on the second floor.
In the second building, the ground floor has been reserved for stilt parking, while nine offices will be on the upper ground floor, a conference and community hall will be on the first floor and a marriage hall with a seating capacity of 610 people will be located on the second floor.
