The Discriminated Teachers’ Forum has temporarily suspended its indefinite chain hunger strike on the seventh day after the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat gave a positive assurance of solving their grievances.
A press statement issued by the forum’s president Neves Rebello mentions Kamat has assured he would study the matter in an in-depth manner within a period of one month and come out with a solution.
Around 84 teachers were detained on the morning of May 28 at the Panjim Church Square, here, when they tried to make their way to the CM’s Altinho residence to start the hunger strike.
The senior teachers, who allege they were forced to retire at the age of 58, as result of change in rules, are demanding for their two years pay benefits along with six pay commission arrears.
