Telaulim to form tenant verification panel

MARGAO: The Telaulim gram sabha after much discussion over the problems caused by migrants living on rental basis in the village resolved to constitute a Tenant Verification Committee that will survey the village and make a list of people living in rented premises.
However, this committee will be constituted at the next gram sabha after give sufficient publicity to the fact that the committee will be constituted. The committee will then visit the entire village and note the houses or premises given out on rental basis.
Earlier the villagers had demanded that the panchayat write to the Health Department not to issue electricity and water connections to illegal houses. However as the Secretary Mario Viegas pointed out that it does not fit in the law the Sarpanch Estevan Goes proposed setting up the tenant verification committee.
The gram sabha approved inclusion of one person in the Below Poverty List while the other application would be decided upon at the next gram sabha after some people from that ward along with the ward representative give their say.
All the four applications made for the Prima Minister Awaz Yojana which is aimed at providing funds to people living BPL to construct or repair their houses. Two works of desilting nallahs in two different wards of the village to be undertaken under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme would be taken up shortly, disclosed the secretary.
The Secretary gave a status report on the Gram Panchayat Development Plan and disclosed that of the eight works proposed only two were tendered and the tenders would be opened on 15th November.
The gram sabha was attended by four of the seven panchayat members and Sarpanch Estevan Goes replying to a question said that two panchayat members had reported to be sick.
