PONDA: Tensions flared up in the Bondbaag area of Bethora, Saturday evening, as local residents erupted in anger over a contractor’s failure to provide access to their neighborhood while digging trenches for laying gas lines. The laying of Natural Gas lines along the Bethora-Borim bypass was underway, but residents were incensed when workers dug trenches approximately 1.5 meters deep near Shakti Scrapyard, blocking access to internal roads leading to their locality.
Frustrated locals confronted the contractor, expressing their discontent over the negligent work. Many residents recounted how they were left stranded on the main road upon returning home from work in the evening due to the blocked access roads. Some even attempted to cross the trenches using makeshift wooden planks, risking potential accidents in the process.
In response to the mounting pressure from residents, the contractor hurried to the site later in the evening to fill the trenches with mud, thereby restoring access to the internal roads. However, locals raised concerns about the lack of street lighting along the road, fearing that the uncovered trenches could pose significant risks of accidents during the night.
