VASCO: Tension prevailed at Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim (CAC) village on Tuesday evening after angry villagers, who have been opposing proposed hotel project in Arossim village, stopped a heavy vehicle carrying some cabins to the hotel project site.
According to information, a trailer carrying cabins was proceeding towards the proposed hotel project site in Arossim. And as the trailer was seen trying to move though the narrow road, putting other commuters in hardships, angry villagers stopped the trailer and after the driver informed that he was proceeding towards the proposed hotel project in Arossim, locals and specially those opposing the proposed hotel project in Arossim stopped the truck from moving further and staged a demonstration.
Subsequently, traffic on the road was blocked and the drama continued for over an hour, even as a team of Verna police and Mormugao Mamlatdar (additional charge) Vimod Dalal rushed to the site to control law and order situation. The trailer was sent back and was not allowed to proceed to the hotel project site.
“We had blocked the road because we have been opposing the hotel project and yet the new property owner, Daffodil Projects Pvt Ltd, using police force tried take materials inside his property. We will continue to protest against the proposed hotel project and will allow them to start work at the site,” a villager said.
A resident Olencio Simoes allege that the VP had connived with the project proponent and had issued permission and appealed to the panchayat, government and other authorities to intervene in the matter .
